New Market Trader Information

We are always on the look out for new traders at our markets. Why not find out if market trading could be the ideal job for you?

Market trading allows you to be flexible and take your trade to your customers without being tied into a lease for a shop. You could start by trading just one day a week and then build it into a whole new career!

To become a successful market trader you’ll need to have a good idea and be willing to work hard with early starts and in all weathers. But the rewards are many – fellow market traders are a friendly bunch, there’s a good community spirit and you’ll get to know your customers, developing your products and range to meet their needs.

There is a whole range of information and practical advice available to help you get started. At our markets you do not need to have your own stall as we provide a stall with boards and canopy at Ashby and Brigg.

A good place to start is the National Market Traders Federation (NMTF), a national organisation that represents market traders. You can become a member of this organisation and get the necessary public, product and employers insurance which you will need to trade.

They also run NMTF FIRST, a national training scheme for people starting out as a market trader that comes with a really useful manual on how to set out your stall and find stock.

Becoming a market trader is a low-risk, low cost way to turn your business dream into reality. Some of the country’s most successful high street names started out on a market stall – Morrison’s, Marks and Spencer and Dunelm Mill to name a few!

For details of current stall vacancies at any of our markets across North Lincolnshire, please contact Markets Operations Manager, John Fullerton on john.fullerton@northlincs.gov.uk or call 01724 297815.
