Start - Junction of Main Street and Church Hill, DN15 9LJ

  • 1
Bear right along Church Hill past the church downhill; keep left along the road past the Old Vicarage.
  • 2
At the road end, bear left onto the flood bank then turn right over the stile and follow this path along the bank for about 1.8 miles.
  • 3
Drop down inland along a wide lane. Follow this past Marsh Farm along the new metalled lane.
  • 4
At a crossroads, the surfaced road bears left (waterside), Rotten Sykes Lane bears right and our route goes straight on a path with a small drain on the left.
  • 5
Before Haven Drain Bridge, turn right across the field (not along the drain). If unclear, aim between a grey roof (Bishopthorpe) and a telegraph pole. Look for a small footbridge and finger post.
  • 6
Cross this footbridge and take the right hand path.
  • 7
Turn along the wide Rotten Sykes Lane for about 100 yards.
  • 8
At two finger posts, follow the Whitton sign diagonally across the field towards a footbridge.
  • 9
Cross this footbridge and go diagonally right for 100 yards, cross substantial footbridge, keep a drain on your left and walk towards some red tanks.
  • 10
Before reaching these tanks, go through a metal squeezer stile into Ings Lane.
  • 11
A finger post on the right indicates the diagonal path leading across a field to a stile.
  • 12
Cross the stile and go diagonally left to a gateway with a stile then turn left into a green lane.
  • 13
Go through a gateway on the right. The church is ahead. Follow a fence on the left into an enclosed path.
  • 14
The path emerges at a corner of Post Office Lane next to a telephone box. Bear left along the road to Main Street, turning right back to the starting point.
