Start - Belton Picnic area, DN9 1NY

  • 1
Leave the car park to the right of the toilets. Turn right along a wide track immediately before a fence and stile. Pass a cowshed on the right and follow a field headland route for nearly three quarters of a mile.
  • 2
The path emerges at a bend of Carrhouse Road. Continue ahead for less than 100 yards.
  • 3
    Turn left into Belshaw Lane.
  • 4
As the lane meets the Epworth/Sandtoft road, turn right along the roadside for 100-150 yards. At a bend, cross the first bridge and turn right along a path between Folly Drain on your right and the larger South Engine Drain on the left.
  • 5
The path bends left and becomes narrower following the South Engine Drain. At the end of the trees on the right, turn right along a short field edge path and into a rough lane.
  • 6
At another lane junction, turn right. Folly Drain soon reappears from the right, running alongside the lane to the road junction.
  • 7
Cross Westgate Road to the pavement opposite and turn right. Ignore Carrhouse Road on the right.
  • 8
Re-cross the road into Mann Lane on the right. This wide lane becomes a track going uphill and bending round to the left.
  • 9
Go ahead at a track junction and upon reaching a second with Belton High Street, cross the road, turn right and left down Jeffrey Lane.
  • 10
Cross the road turning right along the grit surfaced former railway line past a playing field on the right, continuing ahead, ignoring any side paths.
  • 11
The track descends the embankment to the A161 again. Cross carefully to the start point.
