Waters’ Edge Country Park & Visitor Centre, located in Barton-upon-Humber at the southern end of the Humber Bridge, is one of North Lincolnshire’s most scenic and family-friendly nature destinations. Spanning 110 acres of wetlands, woodlands, and wildflower meadows, the park is a haven for wildlife and a peaceful retreat for visitors of all ages. Once the site of a former chemical works, the area has been transformed into a thriving nature reserve, showcasing the power of environmental regeneration.
The park is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including many rare and migratory birds. Visitors can explore a network of accessible walking trails that wind through reed beds, around tranquil ponds, and along the Humber foreshore. Birdwatchers are especially drawn to the site for its seasonal displays of waders and wildfowl, including species such as kingfishers, grebes, and oystercatchers. Cameras installed in bird boxes stream live footage to the visitor centre, offering a close-up view of nesting activity.
At the heart of the park is the award-winning Visitor Centre, which features interactive educational displays, a gift shop, and the Humber Hideaway Café. The café offers homemade meals and refreshments with views over the main pond, making it a perfect spot to relax after a walk. The centre also serves as a local tourist information point, providing maps, guides, and advice for exploring the wider region.
Families are well catered for, with two outdoor play areas, regular craft sessions, and seasonal events such as wildlife days, classic car shows, and heritage open days. The park is also cycle-friendly, with facilities to support visitors arriving by bike. Admission and parking are free, making Waters’ Edge an accessible and affordable day out for everyone.
