About Scawby Hall

Scawby Hall is a distinguished Grade I-listed Jacobean manor house located in the village of Scawby, near Brigg in North Lincolnshire. Built in 1603 by Richard Nelthorpe, the hall has remained in the Nelthorpe family for over four centuries, making it not only a historical landmark but also a living family home. The house has undergone various expansions and renovations over the years, reflecting the architectural styles and tastes of successive generations while preserving its original character.

Visitors to Scawby Hall are treated to a guided tour that delves into the rich history of the house and its inhabitants. The tours are known for being informative and engaging, often led by knowledgeable guides who share stories of the hall’s ancestral lineage, artistic heritage, and notable visitors. The interiors feature period furnishings, portraits, and artefacts that offer a glimpse into the lifestyle of the English gentry across the centuries.

The hall is surrounded by beautifully maintained gardens and approximately 200 acres of wooded parkland, providing a tranquil setting for exploration and relaxation. On open days, guests can enjoy a leisurely stroll through the grounds before or after their tour. Many visitors also take the opportunity to enjoy tea and cake at nearby St Hybald’s, adding a charming touch to the experience.
