Speedway - Riders from the Scunthorpe Scorpions Speedway

Speedway racing takes place at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Normanby Road from March until October.

The club's senior side, the Scorpions, swept all aside in the Conference League before moving up to the Premier League in 2008. In only their second season at that level they reached three semi-finals of national speedway competitions and are confident of doing well in the league in 2010.

Most meetings take place on Friday nights (7pm or 7.30pm dependant on the number of races) or Bank Holiday Mondays (5pm) whilst the track is widely acclaimed as producing the best racing in the country.

The club is one of the most forward-thinking speedway clubs in the country and has excellent training facilities, including a mini-track. There has been continual development of the stadium since it was first opened in 2005 with two stands in place down the home straight, a large cafe raised terracing plus a licensed bar and hospitality suite.

In addition the Speedway circuit also sees stockcar racing ( www.scunthorpestockcars.com ) plus occasional autograss and short track meetings.

Scunthorpe Stockcars

Stockcars at the Scunthorpe Speedway Track

Speedway racing was introduced to the Eddie Wright Raceway on Normanby Road in 2005 whilst stockcar racing was added in 2008.

Like the speedway it quickly became popular with competitors and fans alike because of the high standard of racing. The track is the widest shale circuit in the country and regularly sees cars three or even four abreast.
Most meetings are on Saturday evenings with two meetings per year including the incredible Brisca Formula 1 cars. Brisca Formula 2, V8 Hot Stox, Mini Stox and Banger formulas also race during the season whilst the stadium is being continually developed.

Already the stadium boasts two stands, a large café, raised terracing, a licensed bar and a hospitality suite. There is also a small play area which helps reinforce the sport’s family atmosphere.
